Flower Child

I was strolling up and down the aisles of Aldi this afternoon repeating to myself, "You're only here for basics Drey, you're only here for basics." And then THIS happened. I'm just gonna go ahead and blame it on the floral shirt design I've got on today for subconsciously putting flowers on the brain. The flashy 99c while supplies last sign didn't exactly help either. Aren't they pretty though?!

Sincerely,
Flower $ Child

P.S. - I just love Aldi, by the way! It's a small supermarket based out of Germany. They sell only "off brands," local farmers market produce, and a lot of unique, one time only products, so prices are super low. They don't advertise, decorate, or bag your items, and everything is just laid out on pallets. A little like Sam's but a lot smaller and way less corporate America. You have to put a quarter in your buggy to pull it out, but it's returned once you place the buggy back. Big on reuse, recycle, and take only what you need. <3

Project Pieces

I've made friends and partnered up with a sweet little couple around the way. They're retired and in love and they do cute things together all day like dig for cool rocks, bones, old bottles and jars, and hunt for interesting and unique objects. I was so excited to get a call this week to come check out some new things and I headed right over. Here are some their awesome discoveries I picked up and am so in love with!

They found these beautiful rocks by water I believe, gold cubes developed naturally by the earth. Neat!

This really interesting light fixture was pulled out of an old 60's house undergoing a full strip and remodel. The colored blocks in it are all stained glass, and it is just gorgeous when the light is coming through it! Shop centerpiece light? Yes, please.

And last but far from least, vintage fish hooks! I have a project idea in mind for these adorable little retros. Stay tuned folks!

A dose of Drey: Fact #2

A dose of Drey: Fact #2
My favorite food in the entire world is salmon. If I was a murderer on death row, and I got to choose my last meal before being electrocuted to death, you bet your bottom dollar it would be salmon. And I wouldn't request for it to be from some fancy five star restaurant, my favorite salmon is made by my dad. You can give me the most amazing salmon cooked by a professional chef, that is technically cooked better and yeah I would enjoy it, but I would still prefer my dads. Sounds weird, but he coats his with mustard and cinnamon (it doesn't end up tasting like it), and puts it on the grill. It comes out so juicy and healthy oily, it's just fresh and perfect! His job has him in Florida right now so it's a real treat when he comes home and my salmon cravings are filled. He always cooks a few days worth for me to bring home to my house, it never really lasts a few days though, shh! What's your favorite food? Leave me your most favorite recipes, I would love to make and review them myself! Try cooking my dad's exact version below and let me know what ya think!

Sincerely salmon,

A special Birthday

Sixteen years ago today, this handsome young man standing next to me came into this world at 7lbs. 2oz. and 19 and a half inches long. Today marks his sweet sixteen birthday and he now rings in at 6ft. 4in. and 230lbs!! You bet he's a football all star and I'm so proud of the respectful man he's becoming! Happy 16th to my first born nephew, Tre Anthony! Car time!

Lots of love from your favorite Auntie,

How did I get so lucky?!

Today Marley cat went out for a stroll and being a cat, can push open but not close the door behind him. Marley will go in and out and return all through the day as he pleases. Bentley however, does not come back. So the screen door was cracked by Marley cat, Bentley snuck out while I was washing dishes, went missing for 30 very long minutes, and lead mom to some real treasures I wouldn't have ever come across otherwise! Thanks for scheming little animals, I know it was all a set up! So while driving around looking for B, my eyes caught a glimpse of an old coca-cola cooler, tin sign, and huge original canvas painting done by twentieth century artist Roy Mason , ALL OUT ON A CURB! How did I get so lucky?! How was this just sitting there, untouched, on a curb in the middle of a busy neighborhood?! The house behind this curb looked unlived in so of course these pieces quickly became mine. I couldn't even believe it. My adrenaline was racing and I felt like I was doing something bad, while simultaneously shaking out of my skin from shock and excitement. (Try saying that one five times real fast.) Oh the thrill!!

Sincerely,

Peek into my Nest

I'm just a couple months new to my first house but I'm finally starting to get settled in and it feels like home, rather than a hotel filled with all my things. It's still a little scattered and messy for my liking but we're slowly and surely getting there. I will be posting a photographical tour once everything is perfect and in place, but in the mean time here are a few of my favorite knick nacks and a sort of "sneak peek" if you will!

There's no place like home,
