Our First Baseball Game!

Wednesday night we went to our very first baseball game together, which doubled as my very first one in California! The stadium was much different than our in Texas. Half of it was open, showing mountains in the distance and cars sweeping by on the highway. They not only have hotdogs and the usual concessions food, but fast food places too like Panda Express and Jack in the Box! We went with the tradition bag of peanuts and G taught me how to crack them with the perfect form. I was so excited over it! Even though we weren't "fans" of either team, we enjoyed going just for the baseball atmosphere. The Angels did win though so we were surrounded by happy people and got to see some fireworks at the end! We both love baseball and it's been a family affair of mine growing up, so for us this was the start of many trips. We were surrounded by little babies and we couldn't stop talking about how much fun it's going to be bringing our little babe along very soon!

First Christmas in California

This year was the first time I was away from my parents and siblings in Texas, as well as the first time I was in California sharing the holiday with my brand new husband! We tried to bring as much of our family traditions from Texas to our day as possible, so we used recipes from both of our parents to put our holiday meal together. We're still looking forward to having our "normal" Christmas next month when the flight schedules lighten up, though! We started the morning off by trading gift. I cried (just like on my birthday) when I opened my new Amy Winehouse book and concert dvd. The last time I got a book about her, I finished it in a couple days and was left wanting more, so I was really excited for that. Plus I've spent so many hours watching short clips of her singing live on youtube, so the concert dvd is heaven for me. We listened to Christmas jingles on the record player while we cooked together and relaxed all day. Mister started his mom's yummy pot roast recipe in the crockpot the night before, so the house smelled amazing. He also added chopped potatoes, carrots, onion and tomato sauce to it because we had some already on hand. I was in charge of the mashed potatoes and my most favorite holiday side dish EVER, broccoli rice casserole. That dish alone for me made the whole day a little more like home. We threw in our own side choice of corn on the cob- buttered, seasoned, and wrapped in foil on the grill. The meal came out delicious and the day was pretty special!

A Monday night tradition

Okay, so I have a three guilty pleasure show limit. Whether it’s The Bachelor, American Idol, or Big Brother, we’ve got a routine for it. Currently we’re on The Bachelor so it’s a Monday night ritual, but it changes to Tuesdays and sometimes Thursdays come summer time. My stepmom, we’ll call her Marmie, (a “Little Women” reference) and I meet at our favorite place, Pei Wei. We talk, gossip, catch up, and eat wonderful foods. The manager there knows us well because no kidding, this has been our weekly routine for about 3 years now, same spot. He calls us by name, gives us extra attention and even appetizers and meals on the house here and there! We kill just enough time to let tivo do it’s job, then we go home and watch commercial free! I think it’s cute and fun and I can always count on that day. I’ve got a strong thing for traditions and routines.
